Backlinks: Quality or Quantity?

Backlinks are a vital component of a successful search engine optimisation campaign. But should you concentrate your efforts on shear volume or go for a more cultured approach and select only relevant links?

In the past quantity of links may have done the trick, however in an ever increasingly sophisticated Search Engine arena quality links are more highly regarded. But what is a quality backlink?

As a brief outline the following points should be considered:

Page Rank of the linking webpage

Total outgoing links on the linking
 webpage

Industry relevance of the linking webpage

Page relevance

Keywords in anchor text

Dynamic Link Page

Java Script Link Pages

Re-Directed Links

Frame Sites Link

Directory Depth

Google Earth: Virtual Fly-By

Google has just made public the first version of it's anticipated geographic search and mapping technology Google Earth.

Google Earth combines satellite images and map with local search. Using technology from the recently aquired Keyhole satellite-imaging technology Google Earth can make anyone into a virtual bird capable of flying over Canada, the U.S, the U.K and 38 major cities around the world.

Google Earth can be found here

Google Dance in Motion

You may have noticed that Google is acting a little strangely at the moment, displaying odd results, pages being listed that haven't been there for months, inbound links up and down.

This strange behaviour may be due to an index update, this basically means that Google is changing the the way it searches for results within its database.

This dance may take several days and in the meantime we will all have to sit tight and wait. Some web sites may disappear off the face of the planet, others may come out on top, who knows........
